Is your website still up to date? 12 checks for Swiss small businesses

Updated September 30, 2026 · 2 min read

A website can look fine and still lose customers every day: slow on phones, invisible on Google, no quick way to call. These 12 points take a few minutes to check.

The technical basics

If one of these is missing, Google and visitors notice straight away:

  • HTTPS enabled: without the padlock, browsers show “Not secure”.
  • Loads in under 3 seconds on mobile: every extra second loses visitors.
  • A layout built for phones: more than half of visits come from there.
  • Sitemap and indexable pages: otherwise Google can’t find your content.

What Google reads

Your title and description are your free ad in search results:

  • A unique title per page, with trade and town (e.g. “Hairdresser in Lugano”).
  • A 120–160 character meta description that invites the click.
  • Exactly one clear main heading (H1) per page.
  • Structured data (Schema.org) with address, opening hours and phone.

What customers need

Visitors want to understand in seconds what you do and how to reach you:

  • Tap-to-call phone and WhatsApp, visible without searching.
  • A simple contact or booking form.
  • Your customers’ languages: in Switzerland usually at least two.
  • Fresh content: a © 2021 in the footer looks like a closed business.
